FNOOB DiGiTAL's twenty-third release presents a Erisian shot of sonic chaos from the mind of Belgian dark techno outlaw Ethan Fawkes. Following up on the roaring success of 'Militia' from earlier this year, 'Mirage' features all of Fawkes' trademark intensity, this time with a drone that grows ever more ominous.
Fawkes presents us with two different mixes: the first mix places a deep, low-frequency hum front and centre with building complex saws; the alternate mix showcases heavy kick, rim and hi-hats. Both mixes are punctuated by vocal breaks recalling the pitched-down fire of Dave Clarke's Red 3.
This release comes with four outstanding remixes. Saint Cole brings us an acid flavored take on the original, bubbling with ring mod and boom-chik kick and hi-hat, plus phrenetic synth programming. The Perth, Australia based duo MOT3K give us distorted kick, echo, and a polyrhythmic resonator effect, pushing the track in new directions. Mark Neenan contributes a mix heavy on the sixteenth note shakers and a bright kick with spiky transient. Bawn Trubble rounds out the release with looping trackiness, pulsating acid, and a surprise false ending.
